In Pisa there are many theatre among which Teatro Verdi is the most important; it is located in the town centre behind the Berlina square, few steps away from the Mezzo bridge. It was built between 1865 and 1867 by the architect Andrea Scala and it was opened officially the 12th November 1867 with the opera "Guglielmo Tell" by Rossini. The horseshoe shaped hall has three series of boxes and two of circles, has a capacity of 900 seats and the stage is one of the biggest of Italy (26 meters deep and 32 meters large).

Besides the Verdi theatre there is also the Sant'Andrea theatre , located inside the striking Romanesque Sant'Andrea church (XII Century), located few steps away from the Verdi Theatre (www.teatrosantandrea.it ) and the CinemaTeatroLux, located in Santa Caterina square, hosted in the ancient chapel of SS. Salvatore (1300) (www.cinemateatrolux.it).
