The Pisa mountains indicate the Northern border of the province of Pisa and separate it from the nearby Lucca. They are not very high peaks (max. 950m) but they include a wide variety of landscapes: steep slopes, gentle falls and valleys covered by torrents.
If the mounts are characterised by typical vegetation of low mountains and are made up of chestnuts and pines, the Mediterranean wood colours the landscape with its cultivation of olive groves and vineyards.
Small villages of ancient districts, fortresses, monasteries, castles, remains of fortresses and waterworks run along the long road located at the bottom of the Pisa mounts, simply known as "lungomonte".
