After the successful Marc Chagall exhibition, from October 8th to 2011 January 23rd, Pisa will be hosting at Palazzo Blu the next stop in its suggestive route through art, culture and the Mediterranean Sea: "Joan Miró. I miti del Mediterraneo", a retrospective on the
works of the great, polyhedric Catalan artist.

With his production, Joan Miró i Ferrà - painter, ceramist and sculptor - has immensely contributed to the development of some of the most significant XX century movements, while also preverving a certain stylistic and expressive freedom: together with Salvador Dalì and René Magritte, he was for instance one of the main exponents of the Surrealism, an artistic and literary movement – first appeared in Paris in the 20s – where dreams and the inconscious mind play a pivotal role.

The exhibition, which will offer 110 Miró works including paintings, drawings, litographies, sculptures and illustrations, will be held at Palazzo Blu in Pisa. Restaurated and run by Pisa Cassa di Risparmio Foundation, the culture promoting centre is conceived as a modern opportunity to enrich the city's cultural offerings, as well as a part of a turistic valorization project for the museums on the lungarno, a watery line of the greatest historical and cultural relevance crossing the city from the east to the west.

Apart from the visitable Foundation offices, the Palace also hosts the Foundation art collection, derived from the old Pisa Cassa di Risparmio: paintings and pieces of furniture which, inside the elegant Palace halls, re-evoke the elegance and prestige of an ancient aristocratic mansion. Among the works exposed are paintings and scupltures of authors from Pisa and the surrounding areas.
